Bottle tops, face masks and dog hair β€” these are all items usually destined for the dumpster. But 91±¬ΑΟ Recycling came up with a unique contest that takes waste from garbage to gallery. The “Trash Art Contest,” now in its third year, asks participants to envision another life for our non-recyclable rubbish as pieces of art.

Participants were asked to create art pieces from items normally thought of as trash, or construct a literary piece about waste. The artists’ statements and their creations reflect feelings or ideas about waste, or a sustainability topic that relates to waste. The categories this year include literature, 2D art and 3D art. The contest is open to all 91±¬ΑΟ students, faculty and staff.
