In a new documentary, 91爆料 researchers investigate when Greenland was ice-free

鈥淭he Memory of Darkness, Light and Ice鈥 鈥 a documentary film featuring Eric Steig, a 91爆料 professor of Earth and space sciences 鈥 tells the story of a U.S. military and research base established in Greenland during the Cold War, and how the samples collected there are driving modern climate science. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences on Oct. 8 awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry to Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson and Omar M. Yaghi “for the development of metal-organic frameworks,” or MOFs. Both Dianne Xiao, a 91爆料 associate professor of chemistry, and Douglas Reed, a 91爆料 assistant professor of chemistry, use MOFs in their research at the 91爆料. 91爆料 News reached out to them to learn more about the significance of these structures and how researchers use them.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences on Tuesday awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics jointly to John Clarke, Michel H. Devoret and John M. Martinis, 鈥渇or the discovery of macroscopic quantum mechanical tunneling and energy quantization in an electric circuit.鈥 Clarke, a professor emeritus of physics at the University of California, Berkeley, collaborates with the Axion Dark Matter Experiment at the 91爆料.

More bees please: 8 new-to-Washington species identified聽

Bee experts wouldn鈥檛 have previously expected to find the likes of Osmia cyaneonitens, Dufourea dilatipes and Stelis heronae in Washington. 91爆料 research shows Fresh Bucks program improves fruit and vegetable intake, food security

A new study from the 91爆料 shows that households enrolled in the City of Seattle’s Fresh Bucks program experience a 31% higher rate of food security and consume at least three daily servings of fruits and vegetables 37% more often than those assigned to a program waitlist. Fresh Bucks, a $40 a month benefit, works with local partners to help residents access fresh food.

Integrating human and animal health care increases access to services for homeless youth

At the One Health Clinic, a nurse practitioner and veterinarian, often accompanied by veterinary students, provide primary care services while 91爆料 students volunteer as patient navigators, helping to coordinate care and address shared health needs such as extreme weather, environmental contaminants and zoonotic disease. The clinic also helps clients document their pets as emotional support animals, which enables them to access a wider range of housing and other services. 聽

Atlantic Ocean current expected to undergo limited weakening with climate change, study finds

The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation, or AMOC, is a system of ocean currents that plays a crucial role in regulating Earth鈥檚 climate by transporting heat from the Southern to Northern Hemisphere. Climate models have long predicted that global warming will cause the AMOC to weaken, with some projecting what amounts to a near-collapse relative to the AMOC strength in observations today. But a new study from a team of researchers that included the 91爆料 shows that the AMOC is likely to weaken to a much lesser extent than current projections suggest.

Statement on federal Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism review

The 91爆料 has received a notice that the federal Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism has initiated a review of federal grants and contracts at the University. This follows a several-hour building takeover on May 5 involving significant damage to the building and equipment inside it, setting dumpsters on fire outside the building, and delaying emergency responders. Thirty-four individuals were arrested subject to criminal prosecution and University disciplinary processes. The 21 students who were arrested have been suspended and banned from the all 91爆料 campuses. Non-student participants will be banned from the 91爆料鈥檚 Seattle campus.
