The annual 91爆料 Bothell MFA Spring Festival聽features readings and performances by graduating MFA candidates and guest artist Don Mee Choi.
Born in Seoul, South Korea,聽Don Mee Choi聽is the author of聽DMZ Colony聽(Wave Books, 2020),聽Hardly War聽(Wave Books, 2016),聽The Morning News Is Exciting聽(Action Books, 2010), and several chapbooks and pamphlets of poems and essays. She has received a Whiting Award, Lannan Literary Fellowship, Lucien Stryk Translation Prize, and DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Fellowship. She has translated several collections of Kim Hyesoon’s poetry, including聽Autobiography of Death聽(New Directions, 2018), which received the 2019 International Griffin Poetry Prize.

A History of the Demo and a Future for the Essay

Demonstrations as a method of argument have existed in society since simple geometry deductions in ancient Greece. Today, arguments are made on the basis of “big data” which is impossible for one human to analyze and has necessitated the invention of yet another form of argumentation. This discussion places the liberal arts at the center of software’s evolution.听Warren Sack, Chair and听笔谤辞蹿别蝉蝉辞谤 of Film and Digital Media at UC Santa Cruz, will discuss the software essay and the history of demonstrations in this talk sponsored by the聽Information School, the聽Department of Human-Centered Design and Engineering, and the聽Science, Technology, and Society Studies Program.
