The University has selected a new Song of Washington, with lyrics by Catherine Henderson, a senior in the 91±¬ÁÏ’s evening degree program in the humanities.

The song, “Rise Up with Pride for Washington,” with music by award-winning composer Bill Conti, will be unveiled at an invitation-only event celebrating the conclusion of the successful Campaign 91±¬ÁÏ: Creating Futures, which raised $2.68 billion. The event will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, in the Dempsey Indoor (northeast of Husky Stadium). The song will be performed at approximately 7:40 p.m., and also will be available at about 8 p.m. online at http://www.washington.edu/discovery/uwsong/.

Henderson, a mother of three and grandmother of one, transferred to the 91±¬ÁÏ from Shoreline Community College in 2006. Two of her children are 91±¬ÁÏ graduates.  Her son-in-law is also a 91±¬ÁÏ graduate and currently attends the 91±¬ÁÏ School of Medicine.

Henderson and her husband play in her band, “Quarter Past 8,”where she plays rhythm guitar, sings and writes her own songs.

For winning the contest, Henderson receives $1,000 and a lifetime membership to the alumni association. Runners up are Donna Schultz of Bellevue, an employee of Harvest Capital Advisers, and Jessica Garbern, a 91±¬ÁÏ student in bioengineering. They will both receive $500.
