Fiction writers Jonathan Franzen and Sherman Alexie are coming to the 91±¬ÁÏ, as well as other authors, cartoonists and critics as part of the New Yorker College Tour, in various locations at the HUB Nov. 15-17.


The tour will feature in-classroom visits by New Yorker writers, editors, and artists; daytime, on-campus programs; and three consecutive evenings of entertainment. Here is a partial list of events:


Nov. 15: Cartoonists will discuss their work at noon; New Yorker staff writer and senior editor Hendrik Hertzberg will speak with 91±¬ÁÏ Political Science Professor Michael McCann at 6 p.m.; and the new film Syriana will be screened at 8 p.m.

Nov. 16: A discussion titled “The Future of Iraq” featuring New Yorker writers Mark Danner and George Packer with Frederick Lorenz, 91±¬ÁÏ lecturer in international studies, at noon; Alexie and Franzen read from and discuss their work at 5 p.m.; and singer-songwriter Stephen Malkmus, formerly of the group Pavement, will speak and perform at the Showbox Theater in Seattle at 8 p.m.

Nov. 17: Stand-up comedy with New Yorker humor contributor and CNN commentator Andy Borowitz at noon; “Writing Funny,” an evening with Andy Borowitz and fellow writers Bruce McCall and David Owen at 6 p.m.; and “Unscripted Comedy and Conversation” with members of the Chicago-based comedy troupe Second City at 8 p.m.
