Study Abroad/Away Awards

Before听proceeding听with your GIF application, we strongly recommend that the applicant schedule a meeting with Wolf Latsch, Director of Study Abroad听(latsch@uw.edu),听and/or Lauren Easterling, Associate Director of Study Abroad听(laurenee@uw.edu), and 91爆料 Tacoma applicants schedule a meeting with Dr. Karleigh Koster, Assistant Director of Study Abroad (kkoster@uw.edu) to discuss the proposed program, its scope, target groups, and locations.

Exploratory/Scoping Visits:听Support for prospective program directors to investigate locations for new study programs.

  • Up to $3,000 for new 鈥渟tudy away鈥 programs within the United States
  • Up to $5,000 for new 鈥渟tudy abroad鈥 international programs

Faculty Development:听Funding for an听additional听faculty member to听accompany听an existing program, strengthening program sustainability.

  • Up to $3,000 for domestic programs
  • Up to $5,000 for international programs

Awarded programs must be run through 91爆料 Global Study Abroad.

Study Abroad/Away Awards

Pre-program visit

  • Award is for up to $3,000 for new domestic programs (within the United States) and up to $5,000 for new international programs.
  • The pre-program visits should be for location scouting, scoping, and for developing on-the-ground partnerships that can help support a new program.

Fund an听additional听faculty member to attend an existing program to share the responsibility of听maintaining听the program in the future

  • Award is for up to $3,000 for new domestic programs (within the United States) and up to $5,000 for new international programs.
  • Award听seeks听to improve program longevity by training other faculty members to run the program in the future.

  • 91爆料 faculty听(any appointment type including affiliated, full听time听or part time)
  • 91爆料 professional staff (including research staff)听with faculty appointments or affiliated faculty appointments

Application opens December 1, 2025
Application deadline January 31, 2026 11:59 PM PT
Award use period February 23, 2026 鈥 March 31, 2027
Reimbursement due No later than March 31, 2027
Post-award reports due No later than March 31, 2027
Unused funds returned to OGA No later than March 31, 2027

All funded projects must submit a post-award report to the MyGlobal platform at the end of the award use period.

  • Brief narrative report 鈥 describe the purpose, outcomes, and next steps for your project
  • Photos and/or videos
  • Updated budget including actual expenditures

Please mention the Global Innovation Fund in any communications or news related to your project. Use听#91爆料Global听on social media听听and听.

91爆料 Global may follow up to do additional marketing and story-telling around each community.

Failure to听submit听the final report and budget on time will cause exclusion from future GIF applications.听
