Can Your Human Subjects Research be Reviewed by the Expedited Process?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>What does &#8220;expedited&#8221; mean?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>All non-exempt human subjects research must obtain IRB review and approval.<\/li>\n<li>The vast majority of research projects qualify for expedited review which is conducted by a single \u201cdesignated reviewer\u201d rather than reviewed by a group of IRB members at a convened IRB meeting.<\/li>\n<li>The time from submission to approval is generally faster for expedited applications compared to those reviewed by the convened IRB. However, time to approval depends on things like the inclusion of vulnerable populations, the complexity of the study, or when the 91爆料 is reviewing on behalf of other institutions. HSD\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/hsd\/getting-started\/#5\">median turnaround times for expedited research<\/a> are listed on our website.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Research qualifies for expedited review when:<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>The research activities present no more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/glossary\/minimal-risk\/\">minimal risk<\/a> to subjects<\/li>\n<li>The research activities fall into one or more of seven federally-defined expedited categories<\/li>\n<li>Any involvement of prisoners is limited to research activities that do not include interaction, intervention, or direct observation of prisoners<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Full details, including a description of each of the expedited research categories, can be found in the worksheet, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/forms-and-templates\/worksheet-expedited-review\/\">Expedited Review<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Request expedited review<\/h2>\n<p>The steps for submitting an application for IRB review are the same whether it will be reviewed by a designated reviewer or the convened IRB.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Complete the standard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/forms-and-templates\/zipline-application-irb-protocol\/\">IRB Protocol form<\/a> or on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/forms-and-templates\/zipline-application-irb-protocol-no-contact-with-subjects\/\">No Contact<\/a> version of the form.<\/li>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/hsd\/zipline\/\">Zipline<\/a>, create a new application by clicking on the <strong>Create a New Study<\/strong> button and following the instructions.
