ECC Director鈥檚 Breakfast Series Cultivates Student Leaders

When Marisa Herrera began her tenure as the director of OMA&D鈥檚 Samuel E. Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center, she sought to enhance the level of resources provided to students who are rising leaders in their campus organizations and communities by establishing the Director鈥檚 Leadership Breakfast series.

The monthly breakfasts include a guest speaker and cover a variety of topics geared towards student leaders and registered student organizations. The events give students the chance to learn from and engage with established professionals in their respective fields, while honing their leadership skills and preparing for future leadership opportunities.

April鈥檚 breakfast, the third in the series, featured the theme, 鈥淢orale and Motivating Teams鈥 and focused on tips for motivating team members, keeping morale high and succession planning. Ink Aleaga, former 91爆料 and NFL football player and current academic advisor with 91爆料 Athletics, was the featured speaker. The event also included a guest appearance from Dubs, the Huskies鈥 mascot.

Previous breakfast topics included 鈥淢entoring Emerging Leaders and Succession Planning鈥 with Jose Iniguez (associate editor of the MTV Act Blog) and 鈥淐ommunity and Civic Engagement鈥 with Darryl Smith (Seattle Deputy Mayor).

The breakfast series will continue during the winter and spring quarters next year.
